Entry is not residence
The 90-day tourist stay is useful for research, not permission to settle
Government of Canada guidance says Canadian tourists do not need a visa for stays up to 90 days. Business and student visas are required, and the passport must remain valid for at least six months beyond the expected departure from Malaysia. The MDAC is compulsory unless a current exemption applies.
- 1
Complete the free MDAC through the official Malaysian Immigration website and avoid websites charging for the form.
- 2
At a first visit, present the passport and completed MDAC to immigration before relying on e-gate access for later journeys.
- 3
Choose the principal long-stay basis—employment, education, family, retirement or another qualifying pass—and identify its sponsor.
- 4
Confirm dependant status and spouse work permission separately; a dependant pass is not a general right to work.
- 5
Keep passport renewal, pass transfer and re-entry procedures visible before booking later overseas travel.
