How to use this: tick a task only when the answer or evidence is saved. Write the authority and country beside every legal answer so an EU framework, a national rule and a destination requirement never become mixed together.

Your ticks stay in this browser. The PDF is designed for the family's offline move folder and includes the same six-part sequence.

Moving from Europe family checklist
Use this from home to separate European frameworks, your country's rules and the Southeast Asian destination requirements before making irreversible decisions.
How to use it: read the section above first, then tick an item when you have captured the answer or evidence in your own move folder. The PDF is the offline quick-reference version.
1Define the family's starting systems
2Prepare tax and work evidence
3Protect pensions, social security and benefits
4Replace healthcare and transfer records
5Plan shipping, documents and departure admin
6Finish the first 90 days abroad
Make a one-page country map before collecting forms
For every family member, name the systems that currently cover them. Mixed-nationality families, adults who worked in several countries and children insured as dependants may have different answers.
| Area | Write down | Why it helps |
|---|---|---|
| Residence | Country, municipality or population register, and status | Shows which departure and return-right questions apply |
| Tax | National authority, tax number, tax year and likely adviser | Prevents a regional summary replacing national law |
| Health | Insurer, basis of entitlement, dependants and final-date contact | Finds the gap replacement cover must fill |
| Social security | Every country of contributions and each institution | Protects multi-country pension evidence |
| Customs | Exact export territory and destination importer | Clarifies who files declarations and where |
| Documents | Issuing country, receiving authority and authentication route | Avoids unnecessary or incorrectly ordered legalisation |
Do not leave these five decisions to the final month
Tax date
National residence, destination residence and family timing can overlap.
Home or company
Retaining, selling or managing either can change tax and practical plans.
Health cover
Underwriting and a national entitlement end date need time to align.
Documents
Fresh certificates, apostilles, legalisation and translations can take weeks.
Shipping
Import relief can depend on visa status, ownership and shipment timing.
The first 90 days: finish both sides of the move
Complete destination registrations
Address, immigration, tax, school, healthcare, driving and household imports have their own deadlines.
Test the systems you kept
Open banks, pensions, tax, insurance and digital-identity services from the destination and fix weak recovery routes.
Keep a shared evidence trail
Track travel, work, income, tax paid, claims, contributions and customs documents from day one.
Calendar the first filing cycle
The departure country and destination may use different years, exchange methods and deadlines.
