Entry is not residence
Visa-free entry can support a scouting trip, but it does not let the family settle or work
Smartraveller says Australian ordinary-passport holders can use Thailand's visa exemption for tourism and short-term business, while current Thai Embassy guidance describes a stay of up to 60 days. Passports should have more than six months' validity. Work, study and longer residence need the appropriate Thai permission.
- 1
Check every adult and child passport separately and leave enough validity for the intended long-stay application, not only the first flight.
- 2
Complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card through the official Thai Immigration Bureau website within three days before arrival.
- 3
Choose the long-stay route for the real purpose of the move: employment, education, family, retirement, remote work or another qualifying basis.
- 4
Confirm dependant status and spouse work permission separately; accompanying the principal applicant does not itself authorise employment.
- 5
Record the admitted-until date, extension route, 90-day reporting and re-entry requirements in the family calendar.
