Entry is not residence
A 60-day visitor exemption supports research, not a permanent family move
The Government of Canada says a regular Canadian passport needs at least six months' validity on entry. Canadian tourists can currently receive a 60-day visa exemption, with any extension decided by Thai immigration. Student and working visas are required, and longer family life needs the appropriate Thai route.
- 1
Check every adult and child passport separately and leave enough validity for the intended long-stay application, not only the first flight.
- 2
Complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card through the official immigration website and keep the confirmation available offline.
- 3
Carry onward or return travel and evidence of funds if requested, then check the admitted-until date placed in the passport.
- 4
Choose the long-stay route for the real purpose: employment, education, family, retirement, remote work or another qualifying basis.
- 5
Confirm dependant status, spouse work permission, 90-day reporting and re-entry requirements as separate parts of the plan.
